The 2026 (17th) Iron and Steel Industry Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Conference was successfully held in Beijing from July 24 to 25, 2026. Co-hosted by Shandong Guoshun Construction Group Co., Ltd., the event was jointly organized by China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute and Zhongguancun Stainless Steel & Special Alloy New Materials Industry Technology Innovation Alliance, with the Metallurgical Energy Conservation Special Committee of China Energy Conservation Association as the co-organizer.

Leaders from relevant government authorities, representatives of iron and steel enterprises, energy conservation and environmental protection tech companies, financial institutions, research institutes as well as industrial experts gathered at the conference. Centering on the core topics of energy saving and carbon reduction in the iron and steel sector, participants jointly explored new pathways for the high-quality, green and low-carbon development of the industry. Fan Xianping, General Manager of Guoshun Group, Feng Chao, Deputy General Manager, and other executives attended the conference.

2026 marks the kick-off year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, as well as the first year of the nationwide shift from dual control over total energy consumption and energy intensity to dual control over the total volume and intensity of carbon emissions. The General Offices of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council have issued key policy documents including the Guidelines on Advancing Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction Work at a Higher Level and with Better Quality and the Measures for Comprehensive Evaluation and Assessment of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality. These documents define the positioning of energy conservation and carbon reduction work under the new development landscape, charting a clear path for the green transformation of high-energy-consuming and high-emission industries such as iron and steel.

With the theme of "Empowering Coordinated Energy & Carbon Management, Consolidating the Foundation of Green Development", this year’s conference stands against a new landscape of industrial transformation. Closely aligned with national low-carbon strategies and industrial transition trends, it centers on pollution abatement, carbon reduction, energy conservation and efficiency improvement in the iron and steel sector. It aims to drive industrial upgrading and efficiency gains through technological innovation, business model reform and service optimization, leading the industry into a new stage of greener, low-carbon and more sustainable development with higher standards and superior quality.

At the conference, Feng Chao, Deputy General Manager of Guoshun Group, delivered a keynote speech titled Ultimate Energy Efficiency of Full Production Systems and Environmental Facilities to Help Iron and Steel Enterprises Cut Pollution and Carbon Emissions. He thoroughly analyzed the new landscape of green and low-carbon transformation in the iron and steel industry, the implementation requirements of the dual carbon policies, as well as core pain points restricting steel enterprises in pollution reduction, carbon abatement, quality improvement and efficiency enhancement.
